I have been interested in photography for most of my life. I am not a professional photographer; I photograph because it makes me look more closely at places, people and the small details that might otherwise pass unnoticed.
I was born in South Africa and have lived in Europe for many years. That background shapes much of what appears here: familiar places seen from a slight distance, unfamiliar places approached with curiosity, and a continuing interest in the contrasts between Southern Africa and Europe.
The galleries include photographs from Germany, South Africa and travels elsewhere. They are not intended as a complete record of the places I have visited. They are simply the images I still enjoy returning to.
I also collect older cameras. Some belonged to my family, while others mark different periods in the development of photography. You can find them in the Camera Collection.
Most of the photographs on this site were taken while travelling, walking or simply carrying a camera when there was no particular plan to use it. That is often when the most interesting subjects appear.
